The Aries Full Moon

On Thursday, October 17th, we have a Full Moon in Aries. The Sun, our conscious self, will be in Libra at 24 degrees. and the moon, our unconscious self, will be in Aries at 24 degrees.

Full Moons are a time of release, letting go, purging of the old. It's the culmination of the lunar cycle. New Moons are when we set intentions and put in our manifestations, as it's the first phase of the lunar cycle and the sun and moon are in the same signs creating harmonious energy. With the Full Moon, the sun and the moon are in opposing signs, creating the notorious chaotic full moon energy.

The Moon in Aries bring energy, optimism, action, courage, openness to change, as well as impulsiveness, impatience, a need for control/leadership, and being more easily agitated. The Moon is soft and passive, wanting to nurture our emotions and feel safe, but Aries is fiery, pioneering, and active.

During this time we may feel our emotions strongly. We may feel on the high side energized, excited, and motivated. On the low side, we may need to be mindful of how we express our emotions (especially anger), as well as getting enough body movement/exercise, and finding healthy outlets for our emotions like creating art, writing, moving our bodies, journaling, breath-work, meditation, walking, shaking our body, spending time outside or however else feels best for you.

There are some additional energies playing into this Aries Full Moon.

To start, we have Chiron, the asteroid that is called the Wounded Healer, is conjunct the Moon by just a few degrees in Aries (conjunct means right next to each other, within 5-10 degrees - the closer together, the strong their energies amplify each others)

Chiron tells us where we need to bring love and healing. It's the areas that needs deep emotional healing and with that healing brings our greatest gifts. Chiron needs love to move towards it's growth.

So with Chiron, our wounds and greatest gifts, conjunct the fiery Aries Moon, our unconscious, our emotions, our inner world, this tells us that this Aries Full Moon has the potential to bring up some deep emotional hurts that need our attention and our love.

But that's not all. There's also Pluto and Mars in opposition to each other, with Mars in Cancer at 27 degrees and Capricorn in Pluto at 29 degrees.

Mars is about action, energy, drive, aggression, war, sexual nature, ambition. Pluto is about change, death and rebirth, destruction, regeneration, power, deep psychological and emotional transformation.

Mars in Cancer, focuses on on our emotions, on caring for others, on feeling things first. Pluto in Capricorn, emphases the changes and transformations around our work, our success, the way we go after our goals, structure, tradition, societal rules and our relationship with authority. With these two planets in opposition, there is emotional and practical tension.

This opposition in these two cardinal signs, creates a grand cardinal cross with the sun and moon being in opposition in the other two cardinal signs.

The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. The Cardinal signs are the initiators, the starters, the do-ers, the visionaries. They start projects, get things going, create action and movement.

With the Aries Full Moon in a Grand Cardinal Cross, this emphasizes the action energy of Aries.

So we have Mars, which rules Aries, in Cancer, and the Moon, which rules Cancer, in Aries. These are uncomfortable positions for the Moon and Mars to be in, as Aries and Mars likes action, excitement, and impulsivity and the Moon and Cancer likes comfort, nurturing, and security.

This Full Moon is about starting something, about changing the way you do things, about breaking down and purging the old and healing the wounds in order to start doing things in a way that is truly aligned with you. Although this time is about action, it's also about emotional healing and clarity. It's about finding new ways to confront things in a way that honors our feelings. With the Chiron Conjunction, and the Mars-Pluto Opposition, there is a strong need for emotional healing around deep-seated wounds, experiences, and mindsets.
